ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN MUSIC CREATION: A COPYRIGHT ISSUE OF THE NEW TIMES
In the present day and age, there is an abundance of digitalized media, from text and drawings to audio and videos, which critically challenges the legal system due to the sharing of unrestricted content and countering the existing laws regarding intellectual property (Baecker, 2019). Amongst the wide variety of creations and inventions, the creation of mashups, or remixes, of existing musical performances further challenges the laws of copyright.
From the copyright perspective, Sturm et al,. (2019) raises a specific discussion regarding the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in music creation, which further raises unanticipated questions. Currently, most countries in Europe who do not have an existing regime regarding protection for computer-generated works, have been questioned on whether autonomously AI generated works qualify for copyright protection.
