However, in the case of collaborative music creation with AI, there are many risks and questions that need to be addressed and resolved in the process. One of those questions, as Makhmutov et al., (2020) states, is to determine how earnings should be distributed between different actors in case of AI being involved in producing a human-like musical product. Both Hristov (2016) and Sturm et al., (2019) argue that there needs to be a new system of protection for AI generated or assisted creative works, and how copyright should be assigned to equally benefit the human authors (the end users of AI software) and encourage human creativity, as well as the programmers, the engineers and encourage growth and development in the AI industry. Though challenging, it is vital to determine the degree of contribution by AI and to what extent the musical work is AI-generated, which, in the second case of aforementioned autonomously generated AI songs, proves to be even more complicated to determine the distribution of earnings and copyright protection.
